Frequently asked questions
-
Usually, yes, but it depends on the venue’s rules and the airspace. Some parks and preserves restrict drone takeoffs, and National Park Service land doesn’t allow them. I confirm permission with the venue and check the airspace before booking.
-
Yes, when it’s planned. FAA Part 107 rules limit flying over people who aren’t part of the operation, so I plan flight paths that avoid flying directly over guests and keep a safe distance from the crowd.
-
I keep the drone at a respectful distance during the ceremony and plan the closer aerial shots for before and after, so it doesn’t compete with your vows. We agree on the plan with you and your planner beforehand.
-
Golden hour, the hour before sunset, gives the warmest light on desert and mountain backdrops. Arizona doesn’t observe daylight saving time, so sunset in Phoenix ranges from about 5:20 pm in December to about 7:40 pm in late June.
-
Golden hour is the best light, and I plan backup timing for the aerial shots in case a monsoon storm or high winds roll in. Arizona’s monsoon season runs June 15 to September 30, and I’ll only fly when it’s safe for your guests.
-
Yes, with the organizer’s permission and a check for flight restrictions. The FAA bans drones within 3 nautical miles of large stadiums during major sporting events, which affects venues like Chase Field and State Farm Stadium on game days.
-
Reach out as soon as you have a date and venue. Popular fall and spring dates in Phoenix fill up first.
